Yup, that’s what I heard and how I thought it was spelled. A then Spare then another A and then Grass. It even reminded me of grass (the kind in your yard, not the smoking kind).
I then thought it might be spelled A–Spear-A–Gas because of the shape. It resembles a spear right? They are even referred to as ‘spears’. At least I had dropped the R in the last part. Now I just thought it was Gas. (No, onions and cabbage, among other things cause that)
My next thought for spelling it was: Ass-Per-Gus. The first 2 letters and the last 3 were correct but that pesky middle was my downfall now. Not even close.
It is A-spar-a-gus. It is pronounced As-Pare-A-Gus, (uh-spar-uh-guh s) Finally, after all these years, I can spell and pronounce it correctly.
