Rearranging the Furniture
Recently, my daughter decided to move the furniture around as the remodeling process is moving into the main house soon.
Inventory of furniture: 2 couches, two footstools/seats, two coffee tables, 1 leather chair, one oversized cloth chair, dining table and chairs, sofa table, wine rack, and a small children’s table and two chairs (made by my son-in-law’s uncle) and miscellaneous tchotchkes.
We ended up putting one of the couches in the bay window alcove, with the larger coffee table. Next we added the leather and cloth chairs. The wine rack and sofa table were moved against a wall that is not planned to be disturbed.
The next task was to move the bedroom furniture as the Main Bedroom is going to have a walk-in closet added. The playroom/laundry room furniture was emptied in order for the guest room stuff to go in there. Some items had to stay though. A few of the items were put into the boys room.
Whew now the guest room (where I have been sleeping) bed and furniture was moved into the aforementioned space. A little tight but it isn’t forever, it will work out.
Next the king-size bed was moved into the guest room along with the full length mirror and a larger dresser. Now for the extra couch…
We tried to move the couch down the hall, into the laundry room (straight shot) and then the problems began. The couch is too long to stand on one of the arms as the ceiling is a bit low in this area. The next attempt was to tilt it on the back so that it could move into the short hallway to the other rooms. Nope, not going to happen. A suggestion was made to move it back out of the hallway and then try to tilt it on its back in the other direction. Darn, we have run out of time. The couch was pushed back into the living room for a later attempt with help from another couple of people.
Exhausted and needing to pick up the boys and take them to their golf practice, we surrendered to time and planned to take care of it in the morning. Best laid plans etcetera; that didn’t happen.
A few days later decisions were made about the furniture. The following items were now going outside to the curb for bulky item pickup: both couches, the footstools and cloth chair. The dining table is also going to go, but the chairs are going to be kept as they can be used for counter seating.
The seating arrangements now are: 3 folding camping chairs, the leather chair and small children’s chairs. I would like to mention that these are special camping chairs. They have a rocking ability. This comes in useful as they are not the easiest to rise from nor the most comfortable. The rocking motion helps greatly to somewhat propel one out of the chair making standing easier. I am not a fan. With three adults and 2 children it is musical chairs. Whoever gets there first, gets the chair! I opt for the leather chair whenever possible but, it is my daughter’s favorite chair and both she and my son-in-law like to sit there. The boys move from camp chair to camp chair and occasionally use the small chairs.
We are surviving for now. Walls are going up to keeping the kitchen and hallway intact. Next, the television is on a wall that is going to be changed. Soon, it too will be removed. Oh joy, no TV whatever will we do? Not easy for all of us to watch TV on one computer. This will be interesting.
The re-model continues
